Staffing Benefits of Working with an Association Management Company
One of the benefits of the association management company (AMC) model is shared resources across multiple associations under one roof. This often means savings on office space, office materials and technology applications, but it also applies to staffing. Not familiar with AMCs? According to the AMC Institute, association management companies “offer the expertise, staffing and resources that allow professional societies, trade groups, not-for-profits and philanthropic organizations to effectively manage day-to-day operations and advance their long-term goals.”
Financial Benefit of AMC Staffing
The AMC staffing model can save your association money compared to hiring a full-time staff team for an association. Instead of having full-time employees for all the association’s needs, AMCs are able to split employees between clients so you are only paying for the staffing you need and can afford. For example, if you need a membership coordinator for 20 hours per week, an AMC can split staff time to accommodate your needs and save you money instead of searching for a part-time employee or paying a full-time employee for part-time work.
Staffing Flexibility
Recently, a Raybourn Group International (RGI) client held their annual conference. As everyone continues to navigate the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic and creating safe environments for the return of meetings, last-minute cancellations are still going to occur. But what happens when a staff member becomes ill and cannot attend an event? That was our reality.
As an AMC, we were prepared for this scenario and had contingency plans in place so the conference could still go on at the same level of excellence – even if staff members were to become ill. So what was the solution?
Employees at RGI often work across multiple associations, whether their expertise is in membership, events, marketing, etc. Because of this, another employee familiar with the needs of the conference was able to fly in and cover on-site tasks. AMCs are able to cover staffing with knowledgeable professionals even on short notice.
Shared Expertise
Having more professionals under one roof working for multiple clients benefits all associations contracted with the AMC. AMC staff have several combined years of experience. They also serve as resources to each other to help solve problems.
For example, if an association managed by an AMC wants to improve membership survey responses, a staff member can seek out guidance and experience from other membership or marketing professionals. It is likely someone on staff has navigated this issue and can offer a solution.
The same goes for any technology platform. Instead of researching every social media scheduler, staff can reach out to each other and ask about the various programs other associations have had success with. This saves the association valuable time and money on research and staff time.
