Advancing Sustainability in Corporate Housing: How CHPA Developed an Industry-Wide Carbon Calculator

The corporate housing and serviced accommodation industry faced fragmented and inconsistent methods for measuring carbon emissions, leaving members without a unified approach to track sustainability performance. To meet these increasing expectations for environmental accountability, the Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA) recognized the need for an industry-standard approach that could bring consistency, credibility, and clarity to how members measured their environmental impact.

Building the Solution: Collaboration in Action

CHPA brought together a diverse group of experts, member companies, and sustainability professionals to form a dedicated Sustainability Workgroup. Through this collaboration, the association led the creation of the Furnished Accommodation Carbon Calculation Tool (FACCT), a solution designed specifically for the corporate housing and serviced accommodation sector.

FACCT was built using best-practice carbon accounting methodologies and tailored to the unique characteristics of furnished accommodations. CHPA guided a rigorous development process that included multiple rounds of testing, pilot use, and member feedback to ensure that the tool was both accurate and user-friendly. The initiative was tightly managed to align with evolving ESG standards and the industry’s growing emphasis on measurable, transparent sustainability reporting.

Setting a New Standard for Sustainability

The launch of FACCT represents a major step forward in sustainability for the industry. By providing a standardized framework, the tool enables CHPA members to consistently calculate and understand their total carbon footprint.

The results have been overwhelmingly positive. Members now have greater confidence in their sustainability reporting and can make informed, data-driven decisions about carbon reduction strategies. In addition, the adoption of FACCT has strengthened CHPA’s position as an innovator and trusted leader in ESG performance, helping to elevate sustainability practices across the industry.

Continuous Innovation for a Greener Future

Version 1.0 of FACCT is only the beginning. The association is committed to continuous improvement, with plans to integrate new data sources, expand capabilities, and align with the latest global carbon accounting standards.

As sustainability expectations continue to grow, CHPA’s leadership in developing FACCT sets a precedent for environmental accountability across the industry. By empowering members with the tools and knowledge to track and reduce emissions, CHPA is helping to drive meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future.
